Panic or Prudence

Where do you draw the line between doing the common snse thing to do and flipping out. At what point do you say that people are doing exactly what they should be doing or that they are going off the deep end.

I live in Tomball Texas which is a suburb of Houston. I am told by a friend who was there that there was a fight at the local Wal Mart early this morning betwen two men who both wanted to buy the last generator the Wal Mart had in stock.

I got home from work this evening and stopped at this very same Wal Mart to pcik up some extra gallons of water. No luck in that the shelfs were already bare. They had some water in smaller sizes but they were not even bothering to put it on the shelf. They just wheeled out the palettes and let people take from there, which they were doing wuite quickly.

I thought to grab some Dinty Moore but the story was the same, the floor was jammed with people but there was very little if anything left on the shelves.

On my way out I noticed that the gas station in front of the store was sold out so I resolved to stop on the way home and top off my tank even though I was barely a couple of gallons dowm

I stopped at the HEB and the story was the same no water and the canned goods were almost gone. I resolved that Kroger would be the same and didn't bother.

Galveston has gone to mandatory evacuation as Rite approaches.

I think after Katrina everyone is just trying to be prepared and that is a good thing. I am still hoping it misses us because if it doesn't it promises to be a very messy weekend.
