Somewhat busy

Pretty snowed under with planning for this year's a< href="http://houstontechfest.com/dotnetnuke/">Houston Techfest at the moment so I would say I will not be posting much but since I have not been posting much that doesn't make sense does it?

Somehow the busier I get the more I make time to do other things, odd.

Should be a great show this year.

Houston Techfest

Just 7 days until Houston Techfest 2009 and we have 1200 registrations.
Sounds like it will be crowded this year. Awesome but crowded.

Houston TechFest 2008 over

The Houston TechFest 2008 is finally over. Scheduled for Sept. 13 and canceled because of Ike we finally had it yesterday.
It was a big undertaking with twice the sessions we had at the 2007 TechFest but for all that is went pretty smoothly and everyone was happy with the 500 people who showed up to the event.
Due to the nature of the reschedule I ended up ordering a lot more shirts and lunches than we needed but that was better than not enough in IMO.

I came home last night with awful back pain for my troubles, took three aspirin and went right to bed. I feel a lot better today except for some pain still in my legs.
I need to go into training for the next one three weeks in advance, at least.

Houston TechFest 2008

We are going to reschedule the Houston TechFest which was supposed to happen last saturday but was Iked.

We can not get a date until Jan 24th however. Since I would still like to have one in Sept. 2009 we are still going to call this Houston Techfest 2008, especially since I had the programs and shirts already printed.

Go the the web site for more information as it happens. We should be able to have at least the same number of sessions (60+) as we were going to have last week and we will try to do other stuff to make it even better.

Went to Houston Bar Camp last week. Nice little conference.

Houston Techfest

I know my blogging is hitting record lows even for me but Houston TechFest is coming up and it is taking up a lot of my time.

I am also working as a DJ in Second Life, just in case you thought I was taking it easy.

Houston Techfest -

Well the TechFest went off without a major hitch yesterday and was agreed to be a big success by all.
The final total it was 476.

I came home after we finished cleaning up, took three aspirns and went to bed.
I am getting a little to old for these kind of things but I am glad we did it.

Pictures will follow in a few days and then normal blogging about garden stuff and the state of the universe will resume.

Houston Techfest

I know I said I would blog more but I have been busy the last few months planning the Houston TechFest.

The date is Aug. 25 and if you are in Houston that Saturday I urge you to come as it is shaping up to be a great event.

Global warming

Yesterday is was 71 today it is 41 tomorrow 47.
I hate global warming.
Monday it will be back in the 70's I can live with that.

Wonderful Weather

It is cold and wet this morning in Houston.
I can look on the bright side though since it is still warmer than NYC.
Friday should be mostly sunny and 61 while NY will be in the 20's.
I regret moving very little and and weeks like this more than a little.

Having said that I now have to drive to work in this mess, UGH!

I went to college in Columbus Ohio where the high today is 23. in Houtson the high will be around 79.

My winter coat has not left the closet in quite a while.

Points of Light

The response of the people of Houston to the tragedy in New Orleans has been fantastic. You don't and probably will not hear about it in the major media but things are happening all over town on a micro scale that are adding up to much more than the government could ever to.

I makes me think that perhaps Pres. Bush 41 knew what he was talking about when he talked about a thousand point of light.

Everywhere people are doing things, even me, not big things perhaps but whatever they can do and it is adding up to more than the suits in NYC can imagine. I predict that all the dire predictions will be wrong. New Orleans, for better or worse will be back in business in less time than anyone expects in spite of the losers who are serving as Mayor and as Govenor at the moment.

Stormy Weather

Awesome storm blowing through town right now. It is totally dark outside and the Mall I can see from my office window has all the parking lot lights on.
Kind of odd for 9am.
I turned off the lights in my office so I could appreciate it better.
I guess I am kind of odd too, I like storms. Not so much being out in them but watching them is neat.

Grace

Good thing I got a little mowing done yesterday because it looks like it is going to be very wet here for the next few days. The whole area is under flood watch until tomorrow.

We needed Rain but...

Just when things were getting boring we may be getting a visit from the new girl on the block named Erika.
Hopefully this one will miss us like the last one did but you never know.
I remember we thought that Allison had passed us by but the bitch circled back and put most of Houston under water.
Let me tell you if you have never seen rain come down at the rate of an inch an hour it is awesome.
I think Allison actually dumped more than that. My memory says 5 inches an hour for 5 hours but that seems like an awful lot.

Silver Lining

The only good things about this heat wave is that the grass doesn't have to be cut as much.
(Another reason I don't water it)
Riding around on the mower for an hour or two when it is over 100 outside is not on my list of fun things to do.

Watering

The temperature in over 100, again, today.
Since I don't have an installed system I have to drag hoses all over the place.
I have a LOT of hoses.
I don't bother watering the grass just the flower beds and some of the trees.
The grass can fend for itself.

Hot Stuff

It hit 104 in Houston today, a record.
Looks like another record Friday.
Europe is roasting too.
For some reason we are not hearing much about global warming however, quite odd.
